Production lead time has always been one of the most powerful strategic weapons for many manufacturers, particularly in the consumer electronics industry, semiconductor industry, and the components industry. Among many things deciding lead time, capacity planning and production planning are being dealt with on a daily basis and are having direct impacts on the competitiveness of the business. Nowadays, multi-plant-at-multi-place operations have become an industry trend. It is a difficult task for the operations department to optimize the capacity utilization rate on one hand and maintain a flexible production scheduling on the other. As a result, we constantly see communications and negotiations between sales and planning departments to achieve the revised delivery lead time required by the customers. Companies tend to gain competitiveness by maintaining maximum flexibility in the planning mechanism.
